How to Draw an Easy Spider Web
Let’s start by gathering your materials to draw the spider web.
Drawing Supplies
Digital Drawing Supplies
Inkscape software program
Computer
Graphic tablet (optional)
Paper Drawing Supplies
Art markers or Colored Pencils
Light Table for Tracing (optional)
Crafting Supplies
Cricut Maker machine (optional)
I like to use Inkscape which is open-source graphic software. If you prefer to work on a tablet, there is even an online drawing app version of Inkscape.
We’ll use the calligraphy and brush strokes tool. The settings that I use are in the instruction sheet at the bottom of the post.
If you’re making the digital version, make sure that your settings on the calligraphy tool match mine before starting.
Draw a Spider Web Step by Step
Start by drawing a vertical line in the center of your canvas or paper. Now draw a horizontal line through the vertical line to make a cross.
See the picture below.

Don’t forget that you can download the instructions below to help you draw the spider web.
There is also an easy step by step video for you to watch later at the end of this post. The video and drawing tutorial can be done in less than 5 minutes.
Easy Way to Draw the Base of a Spider Web
So, we have our cross shape as the base of the spider web drawing.
The next step is to draw 4 diagonal lines in each of the four sections that make the cross.

Basically, you’re going to make a line in each quadrant.
Drawing the Web
The base of the spider web is complete, let’s add the line that will make the web.
Starting from the center, draw a curved line from one line to the line just next to it.

This is actually the opposite of how a real spider spins its web. When a spider makes a web, it tends to start from the outside and it works its way in. But, for the sake of making this tutorial easier, we’ll start drawing our web from the inside and work our way out.
Continue making these curved lines until you get back to the first curve.

Leave a little space and repeat this step until you get near the top of each line.
Make sure to also leave some room at the top of each line.
The spider web drawing is done and you can move on to coloring it, decorating it or cutting it with your die cut machine.

Drawing Tips for Realism
Did you know that the secret to drawing detailed spider webs that look like real-life ones lies in how you handle the pencil lines?
Here’s a good thing to remember: real spider webs aren’t perfect. Those straight lines and concentric circles you see in a spider’s web?
They’re not always so straight or evenly spaced in nature. So, when you’re drawing your own spider web, put away those rulers and draw free hand.
Embrace those wobbly lines—they’re what make your spider web look more realistic!
And don’t forget the small circle at the center of the web; it’s the first step to a more authentic design.
Incorporating Different Drawing Mediums
Can you believe it’s possible to create the best spider web designs using different mediums? Yes, it’s possible!
If you’ve only used a black pen so far, consider this: drawing with watercolor paints or even on black paper can bring a whole new dimension to your art.
For younger kids, this can be a fun activity, adding new ideas like cute bats or different types of spiders to their spiderweb drawing.
For older kids or novice artists, experimenting with new mediums can be a great way to enhance their drawing skills and explore intricate structures in a spider web.
Bonus: Free Printable Drawing Guide
Don’t forget, I’ve got something special for you at the end of the post—a Free Printable Drawing Guide! It’s right there in the instruction video, ready to help you with easy step-by-step instructions.
Whether it’s Halloween or any other time of the year, you’ve got this! This guide will be your companion in creating the most amazing spider web drawings, without any extra cost.
Making a Spider Web SVG File
Do you want to use this drawing to make a spider web svg? If so, then, you will want to close any gaps in the drawing before uploading it to your cutting machine.
Make sure that your areas are bounded (that means that they are closed with no gaps).
If you have gaps, double click on the gap, zoom in and pull the nodes to close the gap. Watch the full-length video to see how I did this.
Your easy spider web drawing is done. All it took was just a few simple steps!
