How to Open SVG Files + A Silhouette Studio Cheat Sheet
Sometimes you encounter small problems opening svg files in Silhouette Studio. You want to open your new svg file and all of a sudden, you see this message…..
PROGRAM DOES NOT SUPPORT THE FILE! Why is this happening? How can I open the svg file? …and open it NOW!
Let’s take a look at what’s going on.
For Silhouette Studio, there are two versions of the software.
- Basic Edition (free version)
- Designer Edition (paid version)
Depending on the version of the studio software you are using, you may or may not be able to open the svg file. If you have the Designer Edition , you can open an svg file normally with this version.
If you are using the basic edition you won’t be able to open svg files. You’re better off using the DXF file. DXF is a file extension for a graphic image format used with AutoCAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) software. DXF stands for Drawing eXchange Format.
Basically, the DXF file is a cut file and the design pieces will be in black and white, making it easy for you to use.
